Police appeal after lorry’s window smashed by youths throwing stones

-

A lorry’s windscreen was smashed after a stone was dropped onto it from a bridge above the M5 near Burnham-On-Sea.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the incident between Bridgwater and Highbridge on Saturday May 31st at around 8pm near where the motorway crosses over the Huntspill river between junctions 23 and 22.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “Some youths were on the bridge throwing stones and one hit a lorry and smashed its windscreen. An investigation has begun and we’d like to speak to anyone who saw people throwing stones or acting suspiciously in the area at that time.”

PC Ross Brayley added: “Fortunately the driver was not injured and managed to avoid a collision despite the damaged windscreen.”

“However, the outcome could have been very different and I want the people responsible to stop and think about the possible consequences of their actions.”

“Throwing stones might seem minor to you but if someone had been seriously injured that would weigh on your conscience for a long time.”

“If anyone has information which could help my investigation I’d urge them to get in touch with me.”

If you can help, contact PC Brayley on 101 and quote incident number 54782/14 with the reference Burnham-On-Sea.com.
