M5 re-opens southbound after serious crash between Bridgwater and Taunton

-

The M5 in Somerset fully re-opened at 1.20pm after being closed southbound this morning (Sunday May 10th) between J24 (Bridgwater) and J25 (Taunton) following a serious collision in the early hours.

Avon and Somerset Police led the response, with emergency services — including an Air Ambulance, which departed the scene with one casualty — attending the incident.

The northbound carriageway reopened shortly after 4am, but the southbound side stayed shut until 1.20pm while specialist Police Collision Investigation work was underway, said Police.

Avon and Somerset Police say a blue BMW was the only vehicle involved. A woman suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital and her next of kin have been informed of her condition, police said.

The force asked anyone with information or dashcam footage which they felt could assist with enquiries to get in touch.
