A man was rescued from the balcony of his Burnham‑On‑Sea flat after a small fire broke out on Saturday morning (August 29th).
Three fire engines were sent to Chichester Close at around 9.30am after smoke was seen emerging from an upstairs property, prompting concern from neighbours and passers‑by.
Crews quickly arrived and located the man standing on the balcony of the affected flat.
A fire spokesperson said he was safely brought down to ground level using ladders before firefighters entered the property and extinguished the small blaze inside. The man was shaken but not hurt.
A spokesman confirmed: “On arrival, one male was outside on their balcony, unable to go inside due to smoke from a fire within the kitchen area.”
“This was a small fire within the kitchen of the property, the fire was contained to the kitchen. Crews extinguished the fire using 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, 1 triple extension ladder, 2 breathing apparatus wearers and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke.”
”One male was led to safety once the smoke had been cleared from the premises. The cause of the fire was accidental.”
