RNLI crew members assist with torch-lit beach search

A TORCH-LIT search of Burnham beach was carried out shortly after 9pm on Monday March 8 after a member of the public rang police saying she’d heard distressed voices calling for help, shouting that they were stuck in the mud.

The Coastguard requested the help of RNLI crew members to conduct a search of the beach between Burnham Pavilion and Burnham Jetty.

Police reported the incident to Swansea Coastguard, and RNLI crew members were requested to carry out a torchlight search of the shoreline.

Meanwhile, an RNLI boat crew who had just landed with the D-type lifeboat Elsie Francis II assisted the coastguard with a search of the beach.

The search was finally called off at around 21:30, after a police helicopter carried out a search of the area using thermal imaging equipment, and pronounced the area clear.

This was the second call on RNLI resources within the last two weeks.
