A pensioner suffered head and leg injuries in an accident in the centre of Highbridge this afternoon (Monday, July 19th).

Police sealed off Market Street for several hours while officers investigated how the woman had been struck by a blue Volvo.

“An ambulance was called to help the woman, who suffered leg and head injuries, after a collision with a blue Volvo,” police spokeswoman Cath Foster told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The lady had been crossing the road outside the William Hill betting shop in Market Street near the busy roundabout when the accident occurred.

Police were called to the scene at 2.05pm and the road was not fully re-opened until around 5pm.
