National maths challenge adds up to success for Highbridge pupils

-

Pupils from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are this week celebrating some great results after taking part in a National Junior Maths Challenge.

More than 150 students from King Alfred School’s years 7 and 8 took part in the annual competition.

It challenges more mathematically able students across the country to answer 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.

“King Alfred pupils did particularly well this time with 40 students gaining a Bronze Certificate, 6 gaining a Silver Certificate and 3 receiving the prestigious Gold Award,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Those who received silver certificates were Brandon Harris, Euan Barton, Olivia Farnham, Nahim Odud, Connie Hazelton-Cavil and Jack Taylor.

The gold awards were achieved by Olivia Earthy and Georgina Mann from Year 7 and Callum Hook-Hole in Year 8 who will also receive the certificate for Best in School.

Massive congratulations to all those students who achieved a certificate but especially to our three students in the photograph who achieved Gold.

This is very important result and is widely recognised by universities so will be invaluable for those wishing to progress to further education in Maths.
