Over 300 people headed to Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens on Monday (2nd May) to watch a traditional May Day celebration.

The sound of the Chalice Morris Men began the event in the seafront gardens, followed by traditional country dancing by the children from St Joseph’s School and a display by members of Lisa Jane School of Dance.

To celebrate May Day there were also free craft activities for children, including willow weaving, flower making and plant pot decorating, plus a fairy hunt and hook a duck.

Organiser Jacqui Strong told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was our best turnout to date for one of these May Day events.”

“There was a really nice family atmosphere and the children all did superbly well and we managed to just beat the wet weather.”

Green Flag award-winning Marine Cove on The Esplanade is run by Sedgemoor District Council and plays host to many free activities throughout the year.
