Highbridge midwife gives birth at her own hospital

-

A Highbridge midwife who works at Weston General Hospital has had first-hand experience of the great care on offer after having her own son delivered there.

Kim Ashwell has given birth to Jamie with her husband Nigel by her side.

Jamie, weighing 6lb 13oz, was delivered at Ashcombe Birth Centre, where Kim has worked for the past three years as a community and ward midwife.

Kim, who lives in Highbridge, said: “It was an amazing experience to have Jamie here, knowing that we were in excellent hands.”

“To have my colleagues helping me give birth was very special for me. I’ve helped so many women give birth here and to have my own baby here is such a wonderful experience.”

“I’d like to thank my colleagues for making this experience so special and for their professionalism and care.”

The centre was awarded a Baby Friendly UNICEF award in February, recognising it as a centre of excellence for strengthening family bonds.
