Man arrested after racially aggravated assault in Highbridge

-

Police in Highbridge are appealing for witnesses and information after a racially aggravated assault in the town.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday (March 24th), the 38-year-old Asian male victim was at the Hot Shots club on Morland Road when racist comments were made to him.

When he left the club, the victim was followed as he walked along Burnham Road and into Church Street, Highbridge.

He was then subjected to what police believe was a racially motivated assault as he was punched to the floor before being repeatedly kicked by an attacker.

PC Nigel Downing said: “As a result he suffered facial cuts and bruising, but was not seriously injured.”

Police have arrested an 18-year-old local man in connection with the assault. He has been given police bail pending further enquiries.

“Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or may have seen anything in the Hot Shots club on Friday night night,” added PC Downing.
