Fire crews from Bridgwater, Burnham-On-Sea and Taunton were called to tackle a small blaze at the Morrisons supermarket distribution centre in Bridgwater on Friday evening (July 6th).

“Fire crews from Bridgwater, Burnham-On-Sea and Taunton, together with an aerial ladder platform and environmental protection unit from Taunton, were sent following multiple calls from the site reporting a truck on fire inside the warehouse,” said a fire spokesman.

“The initial crew from Bridgwater arrived on scene at 5.14pm and after investigating confirmed this was an electrical forklift truck on fire.”

“They set to work extinguishing it, with 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and 2 x CO2 extinguishers, quickly bringing it under control by 5.35pm.”

“However, fire crews remained on scene for some time, liaising with staff to try and find the best way to ventilate the building of the smoke that had accumulated.”

“At 6.30pm crews confirmed the incident was under control. After making both the vehicle and scene safe, crews used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the large building of the smoke before leaving duty of care with site staff.”

“Damage was confined to the forklift, 80% by fire and 80% by smoke. There were no injuries.”
