Work to create a new Neighbourhood Plan in the Burnham and Highbridge area took another step forward last night (Thursday) with the formation of a new steering group.

The new group, pictured above, has been set-up to lead the work in compiling the Plan, which aims to form a shared neighbourhood vision that will shape the future development and growth of the area.

The steering group comprises Chairman John Parkes, Vice Chair Alex Turco (both pictured right), Treasurer Phil Harvey and Stacey Webb, Beverley Milner Simonds, Sarah Milner Simonds, Alistair Graham, Lysandra Marshall, Nigel Evans and Roger Miller.

Mr Parkes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Forming this group is an important step in creating the plan and engaging with the community.”

“I’m really pleased with the levels of engagement we have seen so far with many people wanting to have their say on localism.”

The group will be holding consultation events at Burnham’s Picnic In the Park during July and the Apex Park Play Day in August.

The Burnham and Highbridge group received a £7,000 grant from Locality, an organisation used by the government to support community initiatives, recently and has previously received £20,000 from the government as a ‘pathfinder grant’.

Neighbourhood Planning was introduced through the Localism Act 2011. Communities can shape development in their areas through the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans, Neighbourhood Development Orders and Community Right to Build Orders.
