New ‘Cider House’ bar opens at Unity Beach in Brean

-

A new bar celebrating Somerset’s rich cider‑making heritage has opened its doors at Unity Beach in Brean.

The Cider House, located near the Wonkey Donkey pub and restaurant at the Coast Road family holiday park, welcomed its first customers on Friday, March 20th.

The venue aims to showcase what it calls “some of the finest large‑scale and artisan producers of the drink that Somerset has to offer”, with a line‑up that includes well‑known local names such as Thatcher’s, Rich’s, Lilley’s, Harry’s, Broadoaks, Wilkins, and Sheppy’s.

While a full bar will be available, the owners say the focus will remain firmly on cider, supported by a grazing‑style food menu, live sports, and regular music events. A rotating selection of guest ciders is also planned throughout the year.

The bar is family‑ and dog‑friendly, offering an additional social space for both holidaymakers and local residents.

Unity Beach resort director Jonny Green said:
“Somerset has a deeply rooted, centuries‑old history of cider‑making, evolving from medieval monastic production into a cornerstone of its agricultural identity. We wanted to create a space that celebrates that tradition while giving visitors the chance to explore the incredible variety produced across the county.”

The Cider House is now open daily, with the team inviting anyone in the area to stop by and sample the range.
