Over 230 Brent Knoll residents sign petition calling for return of post box and Post Office services

-

More than 230 residents in Brent Knoll have signed a petition urging Royal Mail and the Post Office to restore key postal services to the village.

Villagers are calling for the reinstatement of the post box outside the Brent Knoll Community Shop, which was removed when the former village shop and Post Office closed. They are also pressing for the return of Post Office services, which have been absent from the village since that closure.

The community‑run shop — launched six years ago as an “Emergency Shop” after the loss of the village’s last retail outlet — has since grown into a thriving Community Benefit Society operated entirely by volunteers. Those volunteers are now leading the campaign to bring back the postal facilities residents once relied on.

David Sturgess, Secretary of Brent Knoll Community Shop, told Burnham‑On‑Sea.com: “We had 232 signatures to the petition in just four weeks that it was open.”

He added: “We’ve communicated this to our Parish Council, for their lobbying of Royal Mail to replace the post-box they removed from the old village shop at our new Community Shop.”

“Meanwhile, we’ll use the petition results in our continuing dialogue with the Post Office towards finding a way to restore some level of PO services in our Community Shop.”

David said customers had made their views clear: “Our customers support both aims — the replacement of the lost post box and the restoration of some level of PO service — but both Royal Mail and the Post Office have so far been difficult to persuade. We can but hope that they’ll take note of our customers’ views.”

The petition continues to gather signatures as villagers hope the growing show of community support will encourage Royal Mail and the Post Office to reconsider.
