Armed Forces Day was marked in Burnham-On-Sea with a special ceremony in the town on Saturday (June 28th).
Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Mike Facey led the event alongside his official cadet Felicity Kirkby and fellow councillors plus members of Burnham’s branch of the Royal British Legion and BARB members.
Cllr Facey reminded residents in his speech that Armed Forces Day is a day to celebrate the work of the armed forces.Â
During the event, the Armed Forces Day flag was raised besides the fountain at the junction with Abingdon Street and the event finished with applause for the armed forces.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council organised the gathering with the support of Burnham’s branch of the Royal British Legion.Â
A planned event in Highbridge was cancelled as “the flag was unable to be hoisted due to a mechanical failure within the raising apparatus.”
