Dozens of emergency services from across the West Country gathered on Burnham-On-Sea seafront on Sunday (August 30th) when the town’s annual rescue services day returned.
Scores of stalls, displays and demonstrations were set up along Burnham seafront and on the beach featuring hovercrafts, lifeboats, Coastguards, ambulances, fire engines and more.
BARB Search & Rescue, the charity that operates Burnham’s rescue hovercrafts, has organised the popular event – with a break for the Covid years – since 2004.
The popular summer event was opened by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Mike Facey and Town Crier Alistair Murray. Despite the threat of wet weather, the event stayed largely dry with just a few passing showers through the day.
Demonstrations were held on the beach by BARB’s hovercraft, while Burnham RNLI’s lifeboat crews teamed up with a visiting Weston lifeboat for a water demonstration. Burnham’s gig rowers were also on the water through the morning.
There were performances through the day by Burnham and Highbridge Town Band, the Chalice Morris Men and local youngsters from Starlight Dance.
Those also present included Burnham Coastguard, Burnham Fire Service, Police, and South West Ambulance. Also taking part were Doc Bikes, Wessex4x4, the Fire Service, ASSAR, the Rotary Book Stall, Weston Helicopter Museum, BIARS, Great Western Air Ambulance, vintage fire appliances, Weston Hospice, Highbridge Scouts, Burnham Sea Cadets, Burnham Gig Club, Chalice Morris Men, Burnham & Highbridge Town Band, Dragon Laser Print and Starlight Dance Company.
Organiser Roger Flower thanked those who had attended the event and thanked all those who had taken part and supported the day.
