420 runners took part in Burnham-On-Sea’s Half Marathon on Sunday (September 13th) with fast finishing times being achieved by the leading trio.
The starting gun was fired at 9.45am at Burnham’s BASC Ground to start the 40th annual 13-mile run to the sound of cheers from the spectators.
The event was won in a fast time of 1:09:41 by Sam Griffiths of Cardiff. He is pictured above with second placed Jack Chitty (1:09:56) and third Phil Hambleton (1:10:12).
The first Burnham Harrier finisher was Rob Oasgood (1:21:39) and the first lady was Emily Fell (1:19:55). Read results here.
Winner Sam told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s the first time I have run this event and am pleased to have won. It’s a great course – flat and quick with great running conditions – cool and just a little rain for my run.”
Race director Julie Lench from Burnham Harriers said the event had gone well and added: “Our thanks go to all the runners, plus our wonderful marshalls and volunteers for their time. Thanks also to all the Burnham-On-Sea Harriers team, BARB and Huntspill & Highbridge Scout Group who helped the event go so smoothly.”

Meanwhile, ‘joggler’ Scott Jenkins successfully completed the run in 1:57:02 while juggling three balls along the whole route!
Over 40 young runners also took part in a one-mile fun run at the BASC Ground.
