More than 20 volunteers took part in a beach clean on Burnham-On-Sea beach on Saturday (September 26th) in the latest clean-up organised by the Friends of Burnham Beach.
The group collected litter along the beach, the River Brue estuary near Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club, and the seafront on a bright late-September morning.

Mark Hollidge, from the Friends of Burnham Beach, says: “The weather was glorious for this latest beach clean. 25 folks, including four enthusiastic children, made a good fist of making the area look pristine.”
“20 sacks were collected — which equates to about 50 kg of trash, mostly plastic. Our thanks go to all for taking part.”

Among the items found was a plastic shopping bag from Normans, the former Highbridge supermarket that closed several decades ago.
The Friends of Burnham Beach hold regular public litter picks along the shoreline and estuary, meeting at the sailing club end of The Esplanade. New volunteers are welcome at future events.
