Lifeboat crew recovers piping after being called to ‘mysterious object’

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s lifeboat crew was called out after a “mysterious object” was spotted in the River Parrett estuary that appeared to look similiar to an upturned boat from a distance.

Burnham RNLI’s D Class lifeboat, Puffin, was launched last week and the crew proceeded to investigate and found a long stretch of yellow plastic gas service piping that was difficult to move.

A buoy was attached to it and the RNLI’s Atlantic 75 lifeboat Staines Whitfield recovered the piping during a training session and brought it back to Burnham beach for safe disposal, as pictured here.

Lifeboat Helmsman Nick Prout said: “We recovered a length of plastic gas piping approximately 30 metres long.”

“It was floating both above and below the surface of the water, and would have been a hazard to local water users.”
