Countdown underway to Wednesday’s annual Apex Park Playday

-

The countdown is underway to Highbridge’s annual Apex Park Playday, which takes place this Wednesday (August 6th).

Last year’s event was one of the most successful in the country with around 6,000 people attending and the organisers say this week’s spectacle will be even bigger and better.

The free Playday, taking place between 10am and 3pm, allows parents to have a day-off from spending their hard-earned money to keep the kids entertained.

This year’s activities will include model boats, inflatables, a climbing wall, drumming, paddleboards, zorbs and table tennis among many others.

There will be 53 activities and attractions and the event also encourages families to spend quality time together having a picnic and exploring the park.

Sedgemoor District Council awarded a £2,500 Project Grant to support Playday and this year’s event is also being supported by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Somerset Play Forum and Highbridge Ladies Group.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Refreshments will be available to purchase on the day and families can bring along picnics.

Don’t forget your sunscreen, sun hats and water as it’ll be an action packed day!

Limited car parking will be available in the main Apex car park on Marine Drive with a £2 suggested donation. Other car parking is available at the Bay Centre (3-4 minute walk) or in Burnham town centre car parks (10 minute walk).

Rosie Pike, Chair of the Playday Committee, said: “The organising committee rely on obtaining external grants and sponsorship to run the event and it is feared unless further funding sources can be found, Apex Playday may not be able to continue into 2015.”

“To ensure this great event continues into the future we ask those who join in the fun to spare some change to support Playday 2015. There is also a raffle to take part in which will raise funds for next year.”

“It is because of the hard work and effort of the Playday committee and volunteers, Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group and Sedgemoor District Council staff that every Playday is such a roaring success for all visitors, whatever their age.”
