Burnham-On-Sea motorist Greg Facey is being hailed a hero after running after and catching the driver of a car who had allegedly tried to run away after causing a car accident.

Mr Facey, 25, was taken to hospital on Thursday evening (July 20th) after suffering neck injuries in the accident at 5.30pm outside The Reed’s Arms in Pier Street, as pictured.

Eyewitnesses said a silver Mondeo Estate had sped along the street, ploughing into the side of Greg’s van, leaving him with neck injuries.

“When Greg saw the driver of the estate running away, he jumped out, ran after the man and caught him outside Somerfield supermarket,” said Greg’s father, Mike, who is also Burnham’s county councillor.

“Police were very quickly on the scene and the man was taken away for questioning,” he added.

“I’m very proud of Greg – he was called a hero by several people watching the incident. We just hope his neck is not too seriously injured.”

Police were joined at the scene by fire crew and paramedics, who transported Greg on a spinal board into a waiting ambulance which took him to Weston General Hospital.

Pier Street was partially closed to traffic after Thursday’s accident.
