Police sealed off the area around a water-logged Transit Van on Brean Beach on Easter Sunday amid safety concerns over leaking fuel after it had become swamped by the incoming tide on Saturday night (April 20th).

Officers placed Police tape around the vehicle to keep beach users safely away after several reports of a strong smell of leaking fuel, as pictured here.

The commercial vehicle recovery service Weston Recovery then took away the van on Sunday afternoon at the request of a vehicle hire firm which owns the van.

As reported here on Saturday, the driver had misjudged the tide and left the vehicle parked on the beach near Brean Cove while going for a walk without realising it would be surrounded by the evening high tide.

An onlooker contacted Coastguards and the team from Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue, but there was nothing that could be done to safely retrieve the vehicle from the sea on Saturday evening.
