Volunteers sought to help Burnham-On-Sea’s Poppy Appeal

-

Burnham and Highbridge’s annual Poppy Appeal is set to launch this weekend and more volunteers are being sought to help.

Residents are needed to help with the sale of poppies in two-hour collecting slots in Burnham’s Morrison’s and Lidl supermarkets and Highbridge’s Asda store from October 25th through to November 11th.

“We desperately need volunteers,” said organiser Gaynor Brown. “Everything for the collectors will be waiting at the supermarket and there will be no need to walk around with collecting tins as there will be a Poppy Table inside the supermarkets so you are not out in the weather.”

She added: “In this anniversary year, we would like to do well for the Poppy Appeal and the service personnel that it supports.”

Readers who can spare two hours or more should call 01278 238714 or 781046.

Meanwhile, a stunning display of poppies is to be held in Burnham-On-Sea during a special tribute to those who died in conflict.

During the build-up to Burnham’s annual Remembrance Day service, silk poppies are to be sold to the public in the town which will then be planted in Burnham’s Manor Gardens to create a scarlet field of floral war tributes. The poppies will be planted in the Manor Gardens during a special event to be held this Sunday (October 26th) at 2.30pm.
