Somerset fire service received several calls from anxious Burnham-On-Sea residents on Wednesday morning (March 21st) when a large heathland fire was visible from the town.

The blaze in the Quantocks – pictured here at 11.30am – lasted for around two hours and sparked a flurry of calls.

But the fire service reassured callers that the fire had been set intentionally and was fully under control.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This was a controlled burning session carried out by the park rangers. There was no need for concern on this occasion.”

Last July, a heathland fire near Watchet which was also visible from Burnham, sparked a similar flurry of calls.
