Students at King Alfred School Academy have raised thousands of pounds for charity during their annual Rag Week.

A grand total of £3,491.82 was raised for Weston Hospicecare and Love Musgrove during the week of events at the Highbridge school before half-term.

Kelly Criddle, one of the organisers, said the events included a successful fancy dress fundraising walk, plus a  ‘soak a teacher’ contest, a sixth form versus staff football match, a variety show, a bushtucker trial, egg roulette, apple bobbing, dodgeball, teacher waxing, and hockey.

“Thanks go to our amazing pupils, our volunteers and the organisation team for all their hard work — what an amazing amount to raise!” said a school spokesperson.

“Huge thanks go to Kelly Criddle for leading us to success!”

There were also collections in local supermarkets, plus a successful raffle and tombola at Gardiner-Whites in Burnham High Street, with prizes donated by local businesses.
