A beach angler in Burnham-On-Sea was treated to the rare sight of a dolphin or small porpoise on Saturday morning, August 15th, when it was seen turning in the estuary at high tide.
The moment was caught on camera as the mammal surfaced briefly near the jetty in the fast‑moving water.
The fisherman, who had been casting from the beach, said the creature had briefly appeared while moving along the estuary, adding it had been a wonderful sight.
Sightings of dolphins and porpoises in this part of the Bristol Channel are unusual, though not unheard of. Â In 2022, we reported how two porpoises were spotted in the River Brue in Highbridge.
