Plans to open a new seafront tea rooms and shop in Burnham-On-Sea have been given the final go-ahead this week.

The Round Tower guesthouse on the North Esplanade has requested ‘a change of use’ for part of the building for the introduction of a kiosk and shop plus tea room and dining area with sea views.

Sedgemoor Distict Council has approved the plans, following recent support from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

Cllr Louise Parkin said: “As a council, we’re looking at plans to improve the seafront — these plans help to take things in the right direction, improving the north end of the Esplanade.”

Cllr Nick Tolley said: “I welcome this application — anything that creates more amenities at that end of the seafront is good.”

Cllr John Parkes said: “Surely anything that improves the northern end of the Esplanade must be supported – I think a business here offering cream teas is welcome.”

The plans were approved by the Town Council on the basis that the plans will “improve the visitor amenity and enhance the northern Esplanade,” which was agreed by Sedgemoor District Council.
