Sanders Garden World near Burnham-On-Sea has this week become National Garden Centre of the Year after winning the sought-after award at a top ceremony in London.

The centre received the top accolade at the 2006 Garden Centre and Retail Awards, run by horticultural industry magazine The Grower in association with the Horticultural Trades’ Association (HTA).

Garden centre boss Peter Burks said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won the overall Garden Centre of the Year Award this year. We won the same title in 2004 so to have been awarded it for a second time is a wonderful achievement.”

Sanders Garden World also scooped the award for ‘Garden Centre of the Year with a turnover in excess of £5million’, as well as the Business Initiative Award for its on site recycling programme.

The garden centre was also a runner-up for categories relating to its public relations and marketing campaigns, the Lemon Grove restaurant and the Christmas department.

“Each category required a 1,500 word submission complete with supporting evidence and a concise 300 word executive summary. A lot of hard work went into our entries this year and every member of staff has either directly or indirectly helped us get our awards. Everyone deserves congratulations.”

These awards come hot on the heels of Sanders Garden World’s accolades at the UK’s Retail Awards and the national recycling awards earlier in November.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for all of their hard work and commitment in helping us to win all of these top accolades.”
