Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets are seeking volunteers to help with running the popular group.

Mike Jackson, Chairman of the unit, is appealing for people to come forward who have some spare time and would like to make a contribution to the local community by getting involved with this thriving youth organisation’s management committee.

Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets is a successful unit that aims to help give young people the best possible head start in life through nautical adventure and fun.

Its young people are between 11 and 18 years old, and the unit currently has 32 cadets.

Under the supervision of a dedicated and well trained team of uniformed staff, cadets take part in a wide range of activities such as sailing, water sports, shooting, catering, parade training, in all of which national qualifications can be obtained.

The unit also offers cadets the opportunity to enter the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

The constitution of all Sea Cadets units requires a Management Committee whose responsibilities are health and safety, fundraising and finance, provision and maintenance of facilities, together with the general direction of the Unit.

“The Unit is currently short of Committee members and even some of the existing members will soon need to retire. I am therefore looking for ‘new blood’ replacements for what is an extremely worthwhile and rewarding role,” explained Mike to Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“If you think you could help make a difference in the local community by getting involved with this vibrant youth organization, please contact me on 01934 732005.”

Mike will gladly arrange for you to come along to the unit in Cassis Close on one of the Monday or Thursday parade nights.
