A group of triathletes in Burnham-On-Sea has this week begun a new season of sea swims in the town.

West Country Triathletes has 40 members across the Burnham-On-Sea, Wells, Cheddar, Bridgwater and Weston areas who take part in sea and river swimming during the Spring and Summer.

Celia Miall, one of the group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Burnham is a great place for our regular open water swimming sessions. We swim as a group for about 30 minutes in the sea from the north end of the beach to the jetty, depending on the tides.”

The group has no concerns about the sea water quality which have led to an ongoing ban being in place by the Environment Agency.

She adds: “We are keen to see Burnham’s Stert Island Sea Swim return in the future, but it won’t be held again this summer.”
