Sedgemoor Crematorium near Burnham-On-Sea is preparing to welcome visitors to a special community open day on Saturday 19th September 2026, offering local people the chance to explore its peaceful grounds and learn more about the services it provides.
The event runs from 10am to 2pm, with an open invitation for anyone to drop in. Visitors will be able to tour the acres of beautifully maintained gardens and step inside the welcoming chapel, which, as a funeral SuperVenue, offers an unprecedented level of personalisation for services.
Guided tours of the crematory will also be available for those who wish to see behind the scenes, and guests will have the chance to meet the crematorium’s friendly and supportive team.
Sedgemoor Crematorium is part of the Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 42 sites across England, Scotland and Wales. All Westerleigh locations are set within landscaped gardens of remembrance designed to provide peaceful places for reflection, supported by dedicated staff.
Manager Laura Williams says the open day is an opportunity for people to visit in a relaxed atmosphere and learn more about what the crematorium offers. She says the team takes pride in providing exceptional care and support to families, and research carried out by Westerleigh Group shows that 92% of people over 55 who have planned a funeral in the past five years believe personalised services are important.
Laura adds that visitors will be able to ask questions about the crematorium’s SuperVenue canvas options, service choices, and memorialisation opportunities — whether in the grounds, through ash‑scattering away from the crematorium, or via personal keepsakes. Guests will also be welcome to write a letter or card to someone they have lost and place it in the crematorium’s Letters to Loved Ones memorial post box.
The open day is free of charge, no booking is required, and light refreshments will be available.
