Tesco denies interest in former Burnham-On-Sea job centre

-

Tesco has this week denied that it is considering opening a convenience store in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea.

The supermarket giant has been linked to the building previously occupied by Burnham’s job centre, situated on the junction of the High Street and Regent Street, as pictured below.

The centre closed in March and during recent days there has been speculation that a major food chain wants to buy the lease to the vacant building.

Burnham's former job centreThe three-storey property occupies more than 730 square metres and Bristol-based Estate agent Lambert Smith Hampton is advertising it for an annual lease of £56,000.

Spokesman Anthony Walker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There has been interest from several parties during recent weeks, but it is still early days.”

However, Tesco, which runs over 600 ‘Tesco Express’ neighbourhood convenience shops and 500 ‘One Stop’ stores across the UK, told Burnham-On-Sea.com it is not interested in the premises.

Tesco Express spokeswoman Juliette Bishop said: “We are always looking for possible sites for new stores, but there are no current plans for Burnham-On-Sea.”
