-

A Burnham-On-Sea resident who carried the Olympic torch through Wells on Tuesday (May 22nd) has decribed the “amazing” reaction he received along the route.

Tony Deahl, who is Chairman of the Friends of Burnham Hospital, Education Officer for the local RNLI and an editor for Sounds and Voices news service for partially sighted residents, ran with the flame through Wells.

“I was so fortunate to be able to carry the Olympic Torch across Wells’ Cathedral Green through such amazing cheering crowds,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“I was humbled by the stories of my fellow torchbearers and felt that in carrying my torch I was representing all those in our community whose efforts to help others often go unheralded.”

“It was a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. Thanks to all those who sent their good wishes before and congratulations after the event.”
