Council starts legal action to move travellers from Burnham seafront

-

Legal action is underway to move a large group of travellers who pitched up on Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront earlier this week at the peak of the summer holiday season.

As pictured here, the group of caravans, motorhomes and vans is parked on the South Esplanade lawns opposite the Sailing Club and in the sailing club’s parking area.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Officers have attended to speak with the travellers and carry out the required welfare enquiries.”

“Notice has been served requiring the site to be vacated. If the site is not vacated in accordance with the notice the Council will take legal action to obtain possession. We are getting a court order to get them removed.”

The legal costs of moving each group runs into hundreds of pounds – a figure that is rising as the summer draws on, as Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported here last month.
