Two Brean beach warden trucks have been completely submerged in the sea today (Wednesday, August 26th) after getting stuck in soft sand and mud during the rescue of a child.
The vehicles became stranded on Brean beach at around 4pm and could not be recovered before being covered by the incoming tide.
Somerset Council, which runs the beach warden service, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is an unfortunate incident which happened while our Beach Safety Warden was rescuing a child who was trapped in the mud on an incoming tide.”
“Crucially they got the child to safety but unfortunately his vehicle became stuck and a further vehicle which went out to assist also became stuck.”
“Both were caught by the tide. Thankfully nobody was injured.“
The spokesman added that the vehicles will be recovered as soon as possible using a commercial recovery service.
One eyewitness added: “One of the trucks got stuck and called for backup. Then the other one came to pull it out and got stuck as well. It was quite frantic for a time.”
