Two Burnham-On-Sea schools set to enter new era under joint leadership

-

A leadership change has been announced for two of Burnham‑On‑Sea’s primary schools with The Priory Learning Trust confirming that Carly Hatch will take over as Headteacher of St Andrew’s Church Junior School while continuing in her established role at Burnham Infant School from 1st September 2026.

The move marks a significant moment for both schools, bringing the two sites under the leadership of a headteacher already well‑known for her commitment to high‑quality education and strong community relationships.

Mrs Hatch (pictured) has been Headteacher at Burnham Infants since January 2021 and has worked closely with current St Andrew’s headteacher Wayne Higgins to develop a shared curriculum and strengthen continuity for pupils moving between the two schools.

As she prepares to take on the junior school role, she will be building on what the trust describes as the “solid foundations” established by Mr Higgins over many years.

Carly says: “I am incredibly excited to be joining the school community as Headteacher in September. It is a real privilege to become part of St Andrew’s Junior School, and work to support all the pupils, families and staff who make it such a special place.”

She reflected on her work at Burnham Infants, adding:  “Alongside this role, I continue my work at Burnham-On-Sea Infant School, where I have been proud to play an integral part in creating an environment in which every child is nurtured, supported and inspired to reach their full potential.”

“These experiences have shaped my belief that strong relationships, high expectations and a shared sense of purpose are at the heart of every successful school.”

Mrs Hatch said that leading both schools offers “a wonderful opportunity to build on existing strengths, share best practices and create even richer learning experiences for our children,” adding that she is looking forward to “working in partnership with you all to continue building a vibrant, inclusive and ambitious school community.”

She also highlighted her commitment to working with families, local primary headteachers and The King Alfred School to ensure that young people across Burnham, Highbridge and surrounding areas have access to excellent educational provision.

Deputy CEO and Director of Primary Schools for TPLT, Lisa Dadds, welcomed the appointment, adding: “We are delighted to appoint Carly as the new Headteacher of St Andrew’s Church Junior School alongside her current role at Burnham Infants.”

“Carly is a great school leader and we are looking forward to ensuring that the two schools continue to maintain their individuality whilst working closely together to ensure that children really do get the best education from 4–11 years.”

She also praised Mr Higgins’ long‑standing contribution, adding: “Wayne Higgins has done a great job at the school over many years and we are confident that with the support of quality staff teams over both schools, children will continue to achieve and flourish.”
