Two Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers have completed an incredble 100km challenge for a charity close to their hearts.

James Gadd, 33, and his father in law Barry Whitcombe, 53, ran The Cotswold Way Challenge on Saturday (July 1st), a 100km ‘ultra marathon’ that started in Bath and finished in Cheltenham.

James told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We started in Bath at 9am on Saturday morning going through the night to finish in Cheltenham at 7.50am on Sunday morning to finish in 22hrs 50mins.”

“It was a very hilly, challenging route through woods, fields and beautiful country villages.”

He added: “It was definitely the toughest challenge either of us have ever attempted and we climbed a total of 7172ft of elevation and the step count was a ridiculous 124,645 steps!”

“We are very pleased to have raised to nearly £3,000 between us for MacMillan Cancer Support and would like to thank everyone that has supported us before and during the event, especially Barry’s wife Christine who travelled between each rest stop, and everyone that has sponsored us. Our Just Giving page is still up if anyone would like to donate.”

He said they signed up to do it for the charity as “it’s a fantastic charity and we have all lost someone to, or known someone battle, some form of cancer.”

“I myself lost my grandad to lung cancer at the end of 2016 and have lost two friends at young ages to different types of cancer.”

“I’m also fortunate enough to have met and know several cancer survivors and by raising what I can I will hopefully help towards there being more survivors than victims.”

They are doing it for Macmillan Cancer Support so any donations are welcome via their donations page here.
