Traffic on the M5 in Somerset was brought to a standstill on Wednesday evening (April 8th) after a vehicle fire broke out on the northbound carriageway.
All traffic was held between junction 22 for Burnham-On-Sea and junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare, with National Highways reporting around four miles of congestion at 5.30pm.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene, as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control received several 999 calls reporting a car on fire on the M5 northbound carriageway between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston-super-Mare.”
“Two fire engines were sent and they confirmed that this vehicle was well alight. The car was 90 per cent destroyed by the fire and the cause was accidental.”
Traffic was released once the fire was extinguished and the vehicle made safe.
