Kathleen Chambers House in Burnham-On-Sea has been officially accredited under the Veteran Friendly Framework, recognising the care home’s commitment to supporting former members of the Armed Forces and their families.
Deputy manager Tracey Park said the achievement follows months of work alongside residents, families and staff. To mark the accreditation, the home hosted a special military‑themed coffee and cake morning attended by Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Mike Facey.
Tracey said the home is now looking ahead to organising trips to military events and ensuring staff receive training to better understand the lived experiences of residents with service backgrounds.

“Kathleen Chambers House is proud to be an accredited Veteran Friendly care home,” she said. “We are committed to honouring and supporting the unique needs of those who have served in the Armed Forces and their families.”
“We will continue linking with local veteran support services and charities to help residents live their next chapter with comfort and confidence.”
Lyndsay, who works as the Armed Forces Link Worker for the Sedgemoor area, said supporting veterans is at the heart of her role. She explained that ARK at Egwood runs Armed Forces Outreach Services across the county, bringing together ex‑forces charities, village agents, solicitors, NHS teams and other organisations to offer targeted support and social connection.
Every Wednesday morning from 10am, ARK hosts a coffee and breakfast bap session, providing a regular meeting place for veterans who may be experiencing loneliness or a lack of purpose. ARK at Egwood is an inter‑generational, land‑based day service set within 12 acres of woodland, offering outdoor activities, crafts, cooking and wellbeing support.
Lyndsay said she is always happy to hear from veterans, serving personnel or families who may need advice or a friendly point of contact. More details can be found at arkategwood.com.
