Car slams into lamp post and tree, then bursts into fire in Burnham-On-Sea

-

These were the scenes when a dramatic car crash and fire temporarily closed a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday evening (July 25th).

A car ‘being driven at high speed’ crashed into a lamp post and a tree in Highbridge Road at 7.55pm before bursting into flames, shocked eyewitnesses at the scene told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea Fire Station were quickly on scene and used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze and avoid it spreading to nearby homes.

Those in the car managed to escape unharmed. The road was closed to traffic around the Police Station with a cordon in place while Police began their investigation.

A fire spokesman added: “Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea attended a car that had caught fire after hitting a lamp post. All persons were out of the vehicle and the Police were on scene.”

“Crews put the fire out using compressed air foam and one hose reel jet. The vehicle was severely destroyed, and the cause was accidental. Duty of care was left with the Police who had cordoned off the area.”
