A line‑up of vintage Austin cars drew plenty of attention at Highbridge’s Apex Park on Sunday (April 26th) as enthusiasts marked the national ‘Drive It Day’ event.
Organised by West Huntspill motoring enthusiast Alastair Murray and his wife, the gathering brought together pre‑war Austins for a gentle tour around the Burnham-On-Sea area.

Owners assembled at Apex Park before setting off along Burnham seafront, continuing through Berrow and Lympsham, and finishing in West Huntspill where participants enjoyed a well‑earned cream tea.
The classic vehicles proved a popular sight for families enjoying the warm spring weather at Apex Park, with organisers saying the cars “added an extra touch of interest” for visitors.

Drive It Day was first introduced in 2005 and is held each April, with the date chosen to fall as close as possible to the anniversary of the historic 1,000 Mile Trial.
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs sets the national date each year, while local clubs and enthusiasts arrange their own regional runs and meet‑ups.
Events across the country range from scenic drive‑outs to gatherings at beauty spots and historic locations, celebrating the wide variety of vehicles that make up Britain’s motoring heritage.
