Hundreds of people attended an event to mark the 50th anniversary of West Huntspill Model Engineering Society at the weekend.

The popular event, on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September, was held at the Somerset & Dorset Memorial Railway in New Road, West Huntspill.

There were various models including trains, boats, static engines and planes on show, as well as 60’s music sessions throughout both days to entertain visitors.

Goeff State, general secretary of the group, thanked all who had come along over the two days.

“We had a lovely turnout of around 300 people each day to celebrate what was an important milestone for our group,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It was wonderful to see some of the original founders and their families, plus visiting groups and many supportive locals, from over the years.”

“The ground here was allocated to us by the Parish Council in 1967 and over the years the council has been so supportive of what we do.”

“Three of the orginal locos from that first year are still running and it was great to have them on display during the weekend.”

“Our thanks go the council, local residents and everyone who has supported us over the years. This weekend was held as a special thank you to them.”

He went on to say that West Huntspill Model Engineering Society has around 55 members, including 14 who are active, and help to run the organisation. Newcomers are welcome.
