Scarecrows are appearing along roadsides and front gardens in a village near Burnham-On-Sea this week.

West Huntspill is holding its annual scarecrow festival, with many of the straw-filled characters going on show.

Judging of the artistic creations will take place this Sunday (20th September) when the top two scarecrows will win their owners a prize.

Strict criteria have been put in place for the contest, with the scarecrows having to be orginal designs, have a maximum height of 1.8m, be made of recycled materials, and withstand poor weather.

The characters are on display in gardens, on poles and even on public benches in the village. A special civic service will also be held on Sunday afternoon.
