Widow of former Burnham RBL chairman thanks community for “overwhelming” support

-

The widow of Burnham-On-Sea’s former Royal British Legion chairman, John Crosby, has expressed her heartfelt thanks to the community following his funeral service held this week at St Andrew’s Church.

Ruth Crosby says she was “humbled” by the large turnout at Monday’s service, adding that it was a touching tribute to John who passed away last month.

In a message shared with Burnham-On-Sea.com, she says:  “Following John’s funeral service last Monday, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who attended. I was, and I know John would have been, overwhelmed by the immense turnout at St Andrew’s on Monday afternoon.”

She added that the support shown had brought comfort to her and to John’s sons, stepdaughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren during what has been “a very difficult time.”

“To see so many in attendance was a real tribute to the loss of our loved one. So thank you.”

Ruth also thanked the many people who had taken the time to call, send cards or flowers.

“Your kindness has touched me greatly and helped me cope with what was and continues to be a very trying time.”

She offered special thanks to Reverends Cheryl and Sharon for their care and support, saying the parish is “very privileged to have two such dedicated Vicars.”

Ruth also praised the team at Macbeth’s for handling the arrangements with “care and respect,” and thanked Burnham-On-Sea.com for keeping residents updated on the plans and publishing a tribute.

Ruth ended her message with a personal tribute to her sister, Rosemary:  “You have been my steadfast friend throughout, always supportive and with a kind word. I truly appreciate all you have done for me.”

She concluded by thanking everyone “from the bottom of my heart.”
