Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill, near Burnham-On-Sea, is hosting a whole series of wildlife-themed events for all ages over the summer holidays.

On August 8th, 15th and 22nd, the charity will host Wild and Deadly Wednesdays – a family event to learn more about different insects and animals.

The live nature show, presented by Nick Wadham of Bugfest, will entertain children of all ages as well as parents and guardians.

There will be opportunities for audience members to handle many of the different animals, including a selection of insects, over the course of the afternoon.

Samantha Hannay, Head of External Affairs, said: “As a fully operational animal rescue charity, we are only able to open up the centre to the public at certain times of the year.”

“If you’re looking to fill up the summer holidays with fun, educational and exciting activities, come and see us at Secret World! There will be something for everyone, even the squeamish, to enjoy!”

During the Wild and Deadly Wednesdays there will be birds of prey on display, lots of children’s activities and fascinating talks for all the family. Food and refreshments will be available. Each session will run from 12 noon to 4pm and cost £2 for children and £4 for adults.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue is also holding four Wild Academy workshops next month – a popular nature-themed event which the charity organises through out the year. The workshops, designed to inspire children to get outdoors and explore nature, will focus on wildlife and the environment explored through a range of games, adventures, crafts and outdoor activities.

Sessions will be held on:

Wednesday 1st August – Birds of Prey
Thursday 2nd August – Reptiles and Amphibians
Wednesday 29th August – Birds of Prey
Thursday 30th August – Fruitful Hedgerows
All sessions run from 10am to 12 noon. Children must be accompanied by an adult. £6 per child, best suited for children aged five to 11. Advanced booking is recommended.
