Wind farm protesters have released this new photomontage to illustrate how a potential wind farm near Highbridge would tower over the town’s skyline.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last week that Gaoh Energy has submitted plans for a 60 metre tall weather mast in Alstone, near Highbridge.
David Maund, spokesman for the NoPilrow group which is fighting plans for a wind farm in nearby Rooksbridge, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In its application, Gaoh has not stated the underlying reason for this met mast, other than to measure wind speeds. However, the firm is dedicated to the development of on and offshore renewable energy resources.”
“It is not unreasonable to think that this met mast may be the precursor to a proposed wind farm with turbines, potentially 110-120 metres high, as illustrated here.”
He added: “This latest application could possibly be another attempt by wind farm developers to milk the overly generous subsidies, paid by the consumer in their electricity bills. The wind farm epidemic is like the gold rushes of the 19th century, only this time it is the subsidy rush.”
“We have good reasons to believe that there could be many more wind farms in the pipeline for Somerset.”
“We, as a community, must act now to stop Somerset being obliterated by wind farms. I urge everyone to submit their objections to both Pilrow Wind Farm and this Met Mast to Sedgemoor planners as soon as possible.”
