Strong winds left a trail of minor damage in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (March 29th).

Gusts of up to 65mph hit the town, causing several fences to come down, a cafe’s signage to be blown away, the roof of a phone box to be blown off and a street light to be damaged, requiring a fire crew to help.

They were called to The Esplanade at 1.30pm where a lantern was left dangling precariously over a pavement, as pictured. The crew was also called to nearby Pier Street where the roof of a phone box was damaged. “There was unstable roofing to the phone box – we worked to remove the cover as a safety precaution,” said a spokesman.

A sign outside TA8s Bistro Bar in Pier Street was also blown down by the winds, pictured below. A council team took the debris away.
