Dozens of talented young musicians from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge demonstrated their musical skills during a competition this week.

King Alfred School Academy held its first ‘Battle Of The Bands’ on Wednesday night in front of a capacity audience of more than 250 people.

The judges included Weston-based X-Factor competitor Kezzia Povey, and local judges Dave Eldergill and Dave Englefield, pictured below.

The bands competed over the course of the evening and ‘The Empty Frets’ were named the overall champions and will go through to the local schools final.

The Upper School Champions were ‘Canvas Moon’ comprising Isaac Thomas, Joshua Ford and Kier Lawrie.

The Lower School Champions were ‘The Atoms’ featuring Oliver Cohen, Michael Colman, Jack Warburton, Ruben Kemp and Louis Fear.

The Overall Champions, ‘The Empty Frets’, feature Isabelle Carpenter, Grace Thomas, Jack Millier, Lomand Bradley, Joshua Ford, Dan Anderson and Isaac Thomas.

Laura Whiteoak, the school’s head of music, told that the first event had been a “huge success” and she thanked those who had taken part, judged and supported the evening.
