The winners of Burnham and Highbridge’s annual Christmas lights competition have been announced this week.

Town councillors Pat Burge and Tom Nicholls, right, visited scores of displays across the two towns before picking the winners.

In Burnham-On-Sea, the best house award goes to Sally Cornish at 40 Love Lane (pictured right) while the runner-up is Barbara Morgan at 1 St Christopher Way.

In Highbridge, the best house award goes to Sharon Bowcott at 25 Smith Way with the runner-up Gemma Baillie at 6 Mallard Place.

The award for the best group of illuminated houses was a difficult choice this year, said the judges.

“Having won the joint entry for the past three years, Trinity Close put on another spectacular display again this year, and we would like to recognise the community spirit and charity fundraising from residents there,” said Cllr Nicholls.

“However, this year we were looking to encourage other joint entries and are pleased to announce that the winner is 6 and 8 Stoneleigh Close, who created a winning entry that captured the spirit of Christmas.”

First place in the best-decorated business category, judged by Cllr Dennis Davey with Town Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds, pictured top, has gone to Flowers & Things at 55 The High Street while the runner-up is Highbridge DIY in Highbridge’s Market Street, right.

Bev told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were impressed with the quality of business displays – it’s great to see our local shops putting in so much effort and helping to help add to the festive feel in the town centre.”

The winners will be invited to the January Town Projects meeting on Monday 19th January 2015 where they will be presented with cups and prizes.

Cllr Nicholls added: “We have been impressed by the entries this year, which were up on last year but there are a lot more beautifully decorated homes that do not register for the competition. If you know a neighbour or a friend who enjoys decorating their residence at Christmas why not suggest they join in the Town Council competition next year.”
