A pupil from Highbridge’s King Alfred School Academy is making fantastic progress in the world of rugby, excelling along with the best young talent in Britain.

Year 11 student Finley Davis has just starred for Bristol Bears Academy during a week-long National Academies U16s Festival at Wellington College in Berkshire – and was he the only selected representative from his team, the Weston Hornets.

His call-up came after sensational performances for Weston Hornets and the county team.

Fin’s team played Newcastle Falcons, Sale Sharks and Northampton Saints over the course of five days, as well as taking part in a joint training session with Leicester Tigers. He was also given tips by some of the country’s top coaches.

Bristol Bears Academy will go on to select ten of the 30 people to be involved and part of their academy for next year. It was described as a ‘higher intensity’ level of rugby which opened up possibilities for the future.

Fin said: “I didn’t really expect such an opportunity and was fairly surprised at the offer. It was a good experience and I am looking forward for what is next to come.”
