Poignant Poppy Of Honour to visit Burnham-On-Sea town centre today

-

A huge WW1 memorial called the Poppy of Honour is coming to Burnham-On-Sea next week during a tour of Somerset today (Tuesday, November 6th).

It contains the handwritten names of more than a million men and women who went missing or were killed during WW1.

The massive steel and glass memorial was officially unveiled in Wincanton during October after organisers spent years raising funds for the project.

It will visit Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday November 6th from 8.30am-4.30pm and will be located outside the Royal British Legion in Burnham’s Victoria Street.

A spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted to have the Poppy of Honour coming to Burnham and we expect there will be lots of interest in seeing it.”

Just days after celebrating its completion in a public ceremony, the glass front of the memorial was smashed by vandals, but a glass company has since repaired the damage to enable it to continue its tour.

It is making 19 stops around Somerset, before going on to visit other parts of the UK, the Republic of Ireland and Belgium.
